abstract = "This report is concerned with the research activities undertaken
by the author during the six months training program in remote
sensing and applications at the Institute for Space Research
(INPE/CNPq). Main topics refer to the physical principles of
remote sensing and visual/automatic analysis of LANDSAT data
applied to natural resources surveying and monitoring. Case
studies regarding to remote sensing applications in Forestry, Soil
Mapping, Land Use, Morphometric Analysis, Geomorphology, Range
management and assessment are discussed. Conclusive remarks
appoint LANDSAT as a improving tool to overcome the lack of basic
information related to natural resources inventory. Training
schedule is considered well appropriate, taking into account the
purpose it was designed for.",
